Marbles

Marble is a naturally occurring stone found in the older portions of the Earth's crust. Marble is the result of highly compacted limestone over an extended period of time and has been used in construction since Ancient Greece. Generally, marble is a white stone, though it has been found in a variety of different colours as well (though not as many as granite).

Similar to granite, marble requires the application of a sealant before it can be properly installed into your home, as it is a porous stone. Unlike granite, however, marble is a softer stone, and so even with the sealant, will be more vulnerable to etching, chipping, and other damages. If you practice care and regular maintenance for your marble counter tops, however, they will retain their beauty for years to come, and any stains will usually diminish over time (the stone absorbs it further).
